Cashmere 101
-
Cashmere’s story begins in the Himalayas, where it was treasured by Persian and Indian royalty as early as the 14th century. By the 18th century, European aristocracy embraced its elegance. Harvested from goats in Mongolia, China, and India, this rare fiber became—and remains—a global symbol of sophistication.
-
From goat to garment, every step matters.
Harvested in spring by gently combing goats’ undercoats.
Cleaned, sorted, and hand-separated from coarse hairs.
Spun into yarn, then woven or knitted by skilled artisans.
Lynx + Loom partners with organic farms in Inner Mongolia that are EU-regulated, Good Cashmere Standard, and Responsible Wool Standard certified, guaranteeing sustainable and ethical sourcing.
-
Each goat produces only a few ounces of usable cashmere per year, and transforming it into fabric is a meticulous, labor-intensive process. Pair this rarity with ethical farming practices, and you understand why true cashmere is a long-term investment, one that outlasts synthetics and fast fashion. Investing in a high-quality cashmere sweater is an investment in craftsmanship and sustainability.
The longevity of cashmere—when properly cared for—far surpasses that of cheaper, synthetic alternatives, making it a wise choice for those looking to build a timeless wardrobe.
-
Not all cashmere is created equal.
The finest cashmere fibers are:
Thin & long (13–16 microns in diameter for superior softness).
Pure (free from blends or impurities).
Naturally versatile in color, with white fibers being most prized.
These characteristics ensure softness, resilience, and a luxurious hand feel.
-
More than luxury—it’s comfort, durability, and timeless style.
Softness & Comfort – Gentle against the skin.
Lightweight Warmth – Superior insulation without bulk.
Durability – Resistant to pilling, long-lasting with care.
Versatility – Dress it up or down effortlessly.
Timeless Design – A wardrobe staple beyond trends.on
Caring for Your Cashmere
-
Wash Gently
Hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent. Avoid wringing or twisting to protect the delicate fibers.
-
Dry Flat
After washing, lay your sweater flat on a clean towel, gently reshape, and allow it to air dry. Never hang, as this can stretch the fabric.
-
Store with Care
Fold your sweater and store in a cool, dry place. Add cedar blocks or lavender sachets to protect against moths. Avoid hanging to maintain the garment’s structure.
-
Prevent & Treat Pilling
Natural pilling can occur in areas of friction. Use a cashmere comb or fabric shaver to gently remove pills, keeping your sweater fresh and refined.
